Sophia, a 13-year-old teenager has experienced sepsis 3 times so far in 2021. The first in January was the most disastrous because it caused an over 8-minute cardiac arrest from the septic shock that damaged all of her major organs and eventually caused a bowel perforation that required a 4-month hospital stay. As she continued to recover, she experienced sepsis again in July and August. Each time this meant a helicopter ride from her local hospital to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where she is c. Once an avid golfer, a local junior PGA group from her hometown named their team after her. Her determination is getting her through this unimaginable journey.
