Early in 2016, after years of endometriosis and only 12 weeks after a c-section with twins, I went through with a full laparoscopic hysterectomy. Two weeks following the surgery I saw my surgeon for some strange symptoms. After being seen, I was convinced it was just continued healing . Four days later I found myself in emergency surgery while in septic shock for an infected abscess and hemorrhaging. I knew I was fighting for my life. The abscess was cultured and confirmed for Strep A. I was treated with rounds of antibiotics and another emergency surgery. After two weeks in the hospital I was released with a wound vac and a picc line and needing around the clock care. I had three small children at home. The side effects and impact to my family are immeasurable. I use my voice to tell my story in order to continue my healing process. I hope to continue to help young mothers like myself to recognize the signs and symptoms of sepsis.
