Meet Sepsis Survivor Katora Chalk-Ackiss of Suffolk, Virginia.

Katora, who had never heard of sepsis before becoming ill, was diagnosed with sepsis in December 2018 and as recently as December 2020. The scariest part of having sepsis for Katora was learning that the condition is something that most people don’t recover from. She didn't realize that sepsis could occur more than once.

Her biggest piece of advice for others is to know your body and pay attention to what it's telling you. Katora's quick action by getting medical treatment as soon as she suspected something was wrong has saved her life on both occasions. Feeling blessed to be alive, Katora is joyfully sharing her experience and survival story with others.

Thank you for being a sepsis advocate, Katora. We appreciate you!
