Casey Jernigan of Offerman, Georgia was diagnosed with sepsis  March 2020 as a result of COVID-19.

Jernigan, 46, initially went to the doctor with what they thought was a sinus infection. The following morning Casey was feeling worse, had difficulty breathing and was running a fever. Her condition was deteriorating so she quickly called her family to say goodbye and tell them she loved them.

Her condition worsened and she was placed on a ventilator for 16 days. Not improving, Casey was life flighted to another medial center in Georgia. Eventually waking up on Easter ‪Sunday, she was told she had one of the worst cases of COVID-19 they had treated at that time.

Casey spent a total of 26 days in the hospital. COVID-19 and sepsis affected her wrists and hands. She can only use them with braces. Her neuro system is damaged, her left leg and eyesight have been effected. She also fatigues and sweats excessively now

Casey is still in therapy and feels blessed to have survived.
